Names matter. When we called this watch Basalt, we meant it.

Basalt is volcanic rock — formed when lava erupts from the Earth's core and cools rapidly on contact with air or water. It's extraordinarily dense, impact-resistant, and found in some of the most extreme environments on the planet. The ocean floor is largely made of it. So are the lava fields of Iceland, the coastlines of Hawaii, and the peaks of volcanic mountain ranges across the world.

It's one of the toughest natural materials that exists. And it's the right name for this watch.

Maxum Basalt Black Digital Watch worn by surfer Kyuss King in the ocean,

What the Basalt is

The Maxum Basalt is our newest release — an all-black digital built for people who actually use their gear. Everything about it is intentional: the matte black finish, the sharp digital display, the oversized 48.5mm resin case that sits confidently on the wrist without being ridiculous about it.

It's the watch you grab when you're not in the mood to be precious about what's on your wrist. When you're heading into the water, into a session, into a long day with no fixed plan. The Basalt just goes.

What's inside

Underneath that clean black exterior is a full feature set that earns its place:

  • Stopwatch and chronograph with lap mode — for training, timing sets, tracking efforts
  • Dual time zones — for anyone travelling or working across time zones
  • Alarm with backlight — practical, not decorative
  • Date display and 12/24-hour switch
  • 100m water resistance — surf, swim, and everything in between
  • Silicone quick-release strap — swap it out in seconds if you want a different look
  • 2-year replacement warranty

It's not trying to do everything. It's doing the right things, properly.

Tested by Kyuss King

The Basalt has been worn and tested by Maxum ambassador Kyuss King — which tells you something about what it's designed for. Kyuss doesn't wear gear for show. He surfs competitively on the Challenger Series, plays bass in a touring band, and lives a life that demands gear that keeps up. The Basalt keeps up.
